Apple’s Future

July 21st, 2006

AppleApple Computer announced decent earnings and their stock shot up from 54 to 61 in one day on Wednesday. Some thoughts on the future and why Apple should keep improving their business:

The Intel transition is being handled expertly. The new machines are fast, run Windows, and are selling very well. Their pro desktops are just around the corner, and combined with the recent price drops in Intel chips, Apple should be able to produce better machines for either less money for the consumer, or (more likely) keep the price points the same and improve their earnings.

New iPods are almost certainly coming soon, with likely enhancements being a bigger screen for videos, wireless, or cellphone capability. Nobody has been able to unseat the iPod as the portable music player of choice, and Apple knows that in order to stay ahead of the game they have to keep changing the rules. So there will be a new, awesome iPod.

OSX Leapord coming. The next iteration will compete head to head with Vista and Apple is certainly preparing for it. The odds are high that Microsoft will drop the ball with Vista while the odds are high the Apple will deliver something great.

All of these easy predictions will be happening before the end of the year, so I think Apple will continue to be on a tear. Meanwhile, Dell and Yahoo! both demonstrate that they’re not really in touch with the current tech market that is turning into more of a trendy-fashion game than just power and cost.
