Now that I’ve had about a week to play with my MacBook, the bloom is off the rose so to speak and I’m able to be a bit more objective. I’m still overwhelmingly happy about the machine, but I’ve run into a few issues that demonstrate the laptop isn’t perfect.
First, my trackpad button isn’t working properly on the right side. I have to press on the left and middle of the button. I think there’s a fix for this involving pressing behind the battery space, but I haven’t tried it yet.
I had an instance where the machine wouldn’t start up, and I had to remove the battery and hold the power button down to get it working again.
The stock 512 MB RAM is enough for web surfing and email, but anything more than that causes the spinning ball of pain and heavy disk swapping. I’m ponying up for 1 GB this weekend.
The lack of Universal programs is surprising. There’s plenty of freeware and shareware that have made the jump, but the majority of the big programs I use daily at work are MIA (Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Illustrator, Office). I guess I’ll learn how to use Open Office and the Gimp.
