Yet Another MacBook Post: Magnets
May 24th, 2006
The MacBook comes with a tiny iPod Shuffle-esque remote control, used with Front Row. A cute surprise is that the magnets in the lower right and left corners of the lid slightly attract the remote. So you can rest the remote there and worry a bit less about losing it.
The magnets that hold the case closed are a nice touch as any protruding latches are removed, giving the MacBook a smooth, rounded iPod-esque feel. The last magnet is the magsafe power connector, a great idea that has to be experienced. A definite improvement over the power puck thing I had with my old iBook and replaced twice.
Last is a shameless plug for Waterfield Designs and their new MacBook sleeve case, which I’m testing out. After all, a portable is meant to be taken out in public, where it needs some protection. They have both vertical and horizontal styles as well as options for a shoulder strap.
