MacBook Impressions At The Apple Store
Apple finally announced the MacBook, which I took peek at in the SF Apple Store during a work errand. It’s definitely a slick machine. The glossy screen and magnetic latch eliminate any protusions so the machine is left with a smooth, lipstick-mirror feel.
The updated keyboard may take some getting used to. I guess the intent is a level surface that won’t abrade the screen when closed. Each key is a rounded square, not unlike the Web 2.0 trend of rounded box corners - which in a strange way, are reminicent of the early Macintosh drawing primitives.
So tonight I placed an order for the $1099 “base” model, simply because the additional hard drive space and black color weren’t enough of a draw to me. I’m sure it will be plenty fast enough. This will be a long week waiting for it to arrive.
Disclosure: I own a tiny amount of Apple stock.
