Mac Anniversary
This weekend is April 1st, the 30th anniversary of Apple Computer. I’d love to see Apple release a surprise product nobody’s expecting. Recall the special, high end 20th anniversary Macintosh ten years ago.
Wired has a retro gallery of Apple’s OS past. I spent way too many kid hours staring into the green on black screen of an Apple //e playing games like Ultima, Lode Runner, and Bolo. An SE30 was my college computer on which I played the game 3 in Three (you can actually download it for free today!) and started working with PageMaker and Photoshop. Staring into a tiny greyscale screen was awesome. Then I moved on to a Power Mac 7100, an iMac, and an iBook.
I hope the next thirty years sees Apple bring to life the Knowledge Navigator. A lot of exciting areas of computing still have yet to be invented and brought to the masses, from touch screens to voice recognition to a truly portable, wearable, wireless computer… actually, come to think of it, the iPod is pretty close.
Disclosure: I own a tiny amount of Apple stock.
