iLife ‘06

January 16th, 2006

ApplePicked up a copy of iLife ‘06. Install took a bit more room than I was expecting, in total I lost about 4 gigs. iPhoto is definitely much improved in terms of speed. I can already say the greeting card and calendar options will get some use by us.

I played around a little with iWeb. It essentially makes the code behind the website invisible. From the front, it functions like a very friendly drawing application. One good example: When you click on an image to resize it, it is by default in scale mode, meaning the proportions are kept consistent. This may seem like a small thing, but it makes sense: whenever you try to resize an image, how often do you not want it to scale? Holding down the Shift key, indeed.

iWeb defaults to .Mac, but you can export a web site to a folder. I did so and immediately opened up the index page in BBEdit to take a look at the code. It’s suprisingly clean, and totally tweakable if one so desires. It also seems that a lot of the positioning is being taken care of by extensive use of CSS.
